Commissioned Painting, Oil on Linen, 48" x 36"
Note: I jumped the gun a bit here...a much better color corrected picture is posted later in this thread. :o |
Karin,
Does the 19th century know where you are? ;) Your mastery of light excels with each new work! (This must have been a hold-over before your health concerns?) When I see the size of the piece I'm in awe. It surely must be breath-taking in person. I hope you realize you're leaving very little for the rest of us to achieve. :D |
OOOOH! AAAAH!
Dear Karin....Absolutely breathtaking! The lighting, the fabric, the exquisite tenderness between mother and child, the background, the SIZE! Whew! Makes my arms tired just thinking about having to cover a canvas that size! I agree with David's reference to another era...are we in the Twilight Zone, and you've come to us from the 1800's? I would advise to keep up the good work, but...um...well....I don't think you're capable of anything else but!!!
Very sincerely, Meredith PS. I don't know if this is against protocol here, but I would love your input on my first submission for critique....it's called MaryLynn in Pastel. Thanks! |
Oh, Karin, what a visual thrill to see this work. I only wish I could see the original.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful image...we would love to see some details if you have them at hand. Chris |
Beautiful Karin! I can almost feel the whisper kiss of the mother on the daughter's cheek.
|
Exquisite painting, Karin
The subtlety, the atmosphere, the play of cool and warm colors, the conservation of values. A masterful work! Peggy |
This is so lovely! I especially admire the slow slide of the ribbon up to the mother's elegant neck. The muted color scheme is very effective. I have to ask, what is the mother holding in her hand?
Congratulations on an excellent painting! Linda |

You've done it again!
|
Very lovely! The curve of the mother's neck is beautiful and the dresses and ribbon have such a nice airy quality. The whole painting is very grand and feminine.

Dear Karin,
This is absolutely breathtaking! I hope you'll post some of the details. Joan |
When we can post pictures again on this forum I need to replace my original post with a color corrected one....I am embarassed that I jumped the gun and posted too soon...
Cynthia, what is happening with our hacker problem? |

Specifically, the problem is/was a security hole in a particular type of software called PHP. This is the software used for the forum. Whenever hackers find a security hole like this, they like to jump in a make a mess of things. Consequently, my isp turned off the upload capability through the attachment option. He's making queries regarding whether it's safe to turn back on again, but until we get answers, I'm at his mercy.
I've loaded your new image up to the server for you: |
Karin, I very much like the overall warmth you've brought into the background -- the column, trees, and sky -- compared to the earlier posted image, in which the blue/gray coolness was a quality that I found somewhat difficult to reconcile with the beautiful figures, even in compositional contrast. You've eased a lot of the edgework, too, and I think the overall effect of the modifications is as stunningly effective and lovely as the original was amazing in itself.

Beautiful
Karin,
I love this painting. Is it hard for you to part with your paintings, especially one as large as this one? |
In the beginning it was hard to part with "my children"....but, thank heavens, I quickly outgrew that kind of thinking.
