Terri,
This is beautiful, soft, and sensitive. You captured something really expressive and tender in your subject which is so hard to do. I also love the paintings wonderful presence and personality. Well done!

Terri, this is beautifully painted, and you are so good at capturing expression.(It looks like we are all saying this, aren't we!) Big congratulations to you!

Terri Ficenec 11-02-2005 12:39 AM

Thanks Jerome! (I know the Mom is very happy --still waiting to hear back on the Dad's reaction. :bewildere what do they say. . . the waiting is the hardest part. . .)

Linda, Thanks so much! Somehow she kept reminding me of Mona Lisa while painting -- that little hint of a smile made her particularly fun to paint. . .

Julie Boyles 11-02-2005 12:50 PM

Terri,

I can only echo what everyone else has said! This is beautiful! I really like this pose and the tilt of her head, it's a little different but still classic. I always admire your edges!

Congratulations,
Julie

Lisa Ober 11-07-2005 09:28 AM

Terri, sorry I didn't reply sooner. I like this very much. You have captured such an innocent and intimate expression, one I bet her parents just love. Like many others, I also appreciate the softness of your painting style.

Janel Maples 11-07-2005 11:58 PM

In addition to loving your painting style, I love the expressions you capture. Each time one of your paintings come up for viewing one word pops into my head..... "perfect!"

Terri Ficenec 11-08-2005 01:21 AM

Lisa, Thanks! Finding an expression that is natural is something I really work hard at. One of the little tricks that works really well for me sometimes at the beginning of a shoot is asking them to set in front of the camera while I 'adjust the settings' ;) Of course, there's always talking with them to distract them, and something else that helps to get a variety of 'looks' to choose from is playing mirror with them, I'll ask them to move their head like I move mine, then turn/tilt my head at different angles. Most kids find this amusing and they're concentrating on what I'm doing, not getting their picture taken, so the expressions are more natural. (not sure if this'd work with adults! :bewildere )

Thanks Janel - I only wish! :sunnysmil
