I haven't been too active here lately, and I wanted to share this simple little profile that I completed earlier this month.
10" x 8" Oil on Canvas |
This is super, Lacey!
A little gem. I like your use of color, and the deep tonality. Garth |
Hi Lacey, what a lovely portrait.
This is great! |
Oh, Lacey, I love this! The colors are exquisite, and you've rounded the form and created space between the head and the background so well. I also adore the expression on his face. I agree with Garth that it is a gem of a painting.

Lacey,
A beautiful rich portrait. His expression is so intense. |
Hi Lacey,
it's a beautiful little profile, sometimes simplicity adds force, and you successfully created a strong piece. |
Lacie,
Very, very, very nice. I admire your ability to create such a beautiful, intense and simple portrait. A real pleasure to view. |
Thanks for all the kind words everyone! It is so helpful to get encouragement from such talented people.
This painting is a companion piece to the 8x10 portrait "Melanie" and after comparing them side-by-side, I realized that I do paint differently now than I did then. :bewildere Thanks again, this was fun to paint. :sunnysmil |
Hi Lacey -
Can't add to what the others wrote, just that I really like this too. |
Lacey! this is beautiful. Congratulations.
|
Lacy,
I like the complete profile view. Nicely done! :) |
To echo everyone else, I like this a lot as well. Very nice!

What can I tell you my little friend? Your paint is so much real.. It is a beautiful portrait. I like very much the expression and the light on the face. It seems to be that the child made some bad things..or I am in error?
Compliments.. |
Lacey,
Waht a wonderful piece! I love the expression and lighting, and the way you have managed the lost edges! |
Lacey, this is a very nicely painted head, with great expression. I like the softness and the light fall-off, good job!

Julie, Mary, Enzie, Janel, Luca, Chris and Linda thank you all for the kind words! You are all so encouraging. :)
This boy is always moving at the speed of light, and so I did a lot of planning in taking the photos. I did one round but found the light was too strong, so I came back for another quick shoot. I knew just where to have him stand and where to have him look and had my camera set up and ready to go. I could see that it was taking all of his effort to remain still and calm for the minute it took to take the pictures. Then when I quietly said "OK, we are all set," he suddenly burst into animation running and yelling to his friend that he was on his way! |
