Courtney in clay
3 Attachment(s)
Most of you have probably already seen the demo of this in the WIP section, but now that the modeling is finished (all but final cleanup anyway), I will show it here.
This is lifesize in ceramic clay 18 inches tall. After I dry and fire it, I'll add a hot (cream color) patina and turned pedestal base and show the final result here also. This has been a fun one since it is a local client and a very pretty one to boot. There is no comparison to getting live sittings and is especially helpful in 3D. Anyway, here are a few angles and a couple of closeups. |

closeups - sorry these are a little blurry.

Amazing, Heidi! I feel as though I'm looking at a living woman in monochrome. You did a fantastic job. I hope she's really pleased. (She should be!)
|
Stunning!
|
Marvellous. And to a painter like me who's never tried sculpture, completely incomprehensible. Even after reading your step by step threads, something like this still seems impossible to achieve.
|
Heidi, that is a wonderful peace of art. Grate job! I wish I could see it in person.
Thank you for walking us through and sharing your thoughts with us. Regards, mischa |
Great! Great! Great!
One more beautiful piece! |
Dear Heidi,
She's gorgeous! I can't wait to see the final fired and patinated Courtney. Garth |
Heidi,
technically perfect, AND beautiful, sensitive, graceful. I love the delicate modeling of the details. And the way you treated the eyelashes is a success, it adds a very feminine touch. |
Many many thanks you guys!
I spent all of yesterday sitting in the hot sun at my little potters wheel trying to turn a base for this. I can see this is going to be a little more difficult than I thought. Well, one more skill to master I suppose. If all else fails, I'll hire my brother the potter! |
Beautiful, and thank you for posting the close ups. I love seeing your work and can't
wait to see the final result. Off the subject, but a quick question I just have to ask...... why do you post in the Unveilings for everyone section? |

Thanks Janet!
I reworked the hair strands and some minor changes. I am calling it done (modeling) unless the client sees anything else to change. Oh, I post here because I am just a part-time artist. |

Here she is at long last. Dried, fired, patina'd, and mounted - ready to deliver.
|
That's so adorable.
|
Beautiful finish Heidi! --That's a lovely patina.
|
Stunning!
David |
Once again your work manifests your profound and solid knowledge of the human form. This, coupled with an elegance that can only be innate, is your recipe for the success of your work. Congratulations on another beautiful piece!
Carlos |
Heidi,
Thank you for showing the fantastic process. I had no idea about the enormous amount of work it takes before you can see the result. This is very successful in all respects and I am sure that your client will be very happy. Allan |
Thanks so much Claudemir, Terri, David, Carlos, and Allan!
I hope the client likes it as much. I'm always afraid people are going to immediately point out all the flaws as soon as they see it (am I paranoid?) I was going to deliver it last weekend, but the base took a little longer to make and dry than anticipated, so now I have to wait a couple of weeks until she gets back into town. |
Heidi--
This is beautiful! The finish really brings out the forms. Just stunning. I have immense admiration for all you 3-D guys...it's like doing 360 paintings for each piece, and they all have to fit together. You're fearless, and it shows. Best--TE |
Heidi
I would love to have her in my living room, lucky client. Maybe we should order one now before you get too expensive. Congratulations, she is absolutely stunning. You must be feeling so excited now that she is completed and ready to leave home. |
I'm in awe of your sensitive and able handling of this beautiful piece of art. Amazing. Stunning. Lovely; just pure elegance. It will make an absolutely wonderful gift and heirloom.

I am doing a quick mail check (cleanup) and wanted to take just a minute to acknowledge these extremely kind comments Pat, Ngaire, and Tom. You guys are so encouraging, this is a great forum!
I am in Seattle right now - too bad I didn't contact Michele and Geary - they may be next door and I don't even know it! What a lush, green, beautiful state this is - and such a refreshing change from the desert furnace. |
Oh Shoot!
Hey Heidi,
You'd be hard pressed to find me in Seattle. I moved a year and a half ago. Hahaha! Oh, wait, now I'm sad because I missed you. Yeah, I'm back in my home town in central California. At any rate I just wanted to say again how I just stare and sign every time I see one of your works. Wow....again. It's been months since I logged in and you are one of the first people I look for new work from. Such a treat!! Take care, Gear |
Geary, where have you been? I take this long absense to mean that you've just been too swamped with work to take an escape to forum-land?
How did I miss that you moved to CA? I think I'm the one who's been not reading too closely. Anyway, I have lots of ties in California - was born there and still have half a dozen or so siblings scattered about. Maybe I'll run into you sometime. Quote:

Oopsy Daisy!
"Sign"....hahaha!!!! Wow, do I need to get out of THAT business! Ha! And evidently in more ways than one! (reason why I haven't been online lately)
However, yes, I'm "speechless" and of course you know I meant "sigh". :) Can't wait to see your next project! ~Geary |
