An Exhibition of Paintings and Drawings from Florence, Italy Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Angel Academy of Art, Florence.
To be held in London, England in November, 2007 at the Jack Barclay showrooms on Berkeley Square.

I am quite honored that the school has contacted me, some months ago, to submit some of my work toward the London exhibit. It was a tough choice and it came down to the charcoal drawing of Beebee. My drawing, amongst other drawings and paintings exhibited by teachers alumni and students, will be representing the Angel Academy of Art. I plan to be there for the opening and would love to meet the SOG members that do have time to come.

Thank you for the congrats and well wishes.

I am quite excited about this, being that it is held in the heart of Mayfair. I also just got the news that to attend the exhibit one must have a invitation, me as well, and that the exhibit will be there all of two days. As I understand, the guests that will attend will be by personal invitation. What I'm told is that the royal family is invited.

The press party is on the 31st October and opening is 1st November. I hope to be there October 27th until November 5th.

Regardless, I would love to meet with you Ilaria and with all my artist friends that have the time to chat over tea or coffee.

Even though, I have visited and lived in many countries throughout the world, this will be my first trip to London. While there, I had hoped to get some art supplies and maybe find a reasonably priced cast of the anatomical figure. Any ideas?

Mischa, this is wonderful news! Congratulations on being chosen to exhibit your work in London. I think you made a great choice--that is possibly my favorite drawing of yours. I remember the overwhelmingly positive response it got when you first posted it here. I hope the show goes well, and that you enjoy your trip to London.

Misha, this drawing deserves the recognition it has received. Congratulations! London is full of great museums and tons of things to see. Have a wonderful time!

Sharon, thank you. Being that John Angel spent a number of years with Annigoni I had the opportunity to learn much about him, his lifestyle, mannerism and techniques.

Alex, thank you. Actually, I am not sure what to think about all this but just the thought that this is my first trip to London, let alone to exhibit in the heart of Maymair, is exciting. If someone asked me to pick my favorite drawing or painting I am not sure if I could. They are all special to me. Strange, don't you think?

Enzie, thank you. The first place I wish to visit is the art museums. So, I'm looking forward to this trip.

This is great news! Congratulations on being part of this show...well deserved, your drawing is beautiful. Take some photos of the show so we can all see. And have a good time in London.

Carlos, thank you. I appreciate your well wishes and the congrats. I plan to attend and have my invitations but there are other things that I am involved in that mite conflict with me attending the London exhibit. So, we will see. What ever happens I will try to get some photos.

Just in case someone is interested and in the London Mayfair area on Thursday 1st November.

My drawing of "Beebee" along with other masterful drawings and paintings, represented by the Angels Art Academy, will be exhibited at the Jack Barclay Bentley, Berkeley Square, London. Amongst paintings exhibited will be a few from the Pietro Anigoni collection.

For those that thought to visit this exhibit, please excuse me but it seems I must make a correction.

The Pietro Annigoni and Angel Academy exhibition, as previously posted, is an exclusive invitation only exhibition.

So here are a couple of photos of the event: Micha was so kind to send me an invitation.
The show was held at the Bentley's showroom in Berkeley sq., just north of Piccadilly.
The show was the typical London event, a crew of about five hostesses just to take your coat and an army of waiters for serving drinks and canapees to super elegant guests. The works were all shown on easels and the place was crowded.

Micha, your drawing is a delight to the eye. It stood close to a not so nice portrait of a boy and a still life with teddy bears, it really stood out among its neighbours.

The works were almost all still life and nudes by Michael Angel ( in nomen omen) and other pupils/tutors from the Academy. One thing I didn't particularly like was that not only the style but also the subjects were very consistent throughout the show. This is obviously an Academy which teaches and demands a certain type of work.
In this your work looked different from all the others, as it is clearly executed with the knowledge from the academy but it is lyrical, sensitive, and full of life.

The event was definetely a success, so many congratulations!

Ilaria, it was my pleasure and I was happy that you cold find the time to attend.

I must chuckle in regard to your comment and the work exhibited.

You are correct in your observation, most of the work exhibited is work executed in the standard of the academy. This exhibit was setup rather to promote the academy and not so much so the individual student/artist.

We must remember most schools of excellence, all schools as a mater of fact, the entire educational system, is set up to prepare individuals for what awaits. Leaving the school all one has is the knowledge needed, that is something, to build on. Without this knowledge well...what would our world be.

So, practically speaking what you saw was the work of individuals and how they regard the foundational aspects of what they learn't.


While at the academy, it was fun to notice how each student developed his/her understanding. Even in the work of the fourth year students one is able to notice the struggles and also the areas of individuality of excellence.

I sincerely appreciate the learning offered at the Angel academy. With this knowledge I have the tools needed to expand on my creativity and I believe this should be the goal of every true artist.


One cannot do much with just a ratchet set and a few screwdrivers maybe just replace the worn-out parts.
My brother is a successful mechanic with a business in Toronto and in Former Yugoslavia. Now, I'm just adding this to give another illustration. In each shop he has at least three hydraulic lifts, tens of thousands $ worth of hand held tools and who knows what else, computers and such. All of that would be worthless, just mere toys, if he did not poses the practical knowledge. He is a success because he has the knowledge and the practical know how in applying that knowledge.

So, that said, I must say It is such a pleasure to see artists reaching for the stars and I can honestly relate to that. Ilaria and her recent success is a perfect example of reaching for the stars.
