Rushworth US Coast Guard Commission
 

A few of you may have already heard about this, since I was told in the spring that I had been chosen, but the paperwork has just been completed so I can officially announce it now.

I've been selected to paint the official portrait of the Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, Four Star Admiral Thad Allen. The portrait will hang in the Coast Guard

My son is in the Coast Guard. I have a great deal of respect for this branch of Homeland Security. They are a very tight knit, honorable community of men and women who get little recognition. Few people understand that it is the Coast Guard who keeps our waters safe and when the Navy is overseas, the Coast Guard is there securing the safety of the Navy.

I can't wait to see your painting and look forward to hearing about the ceremony. Those guys and gals are pretty stunning in their dress whites!

They found my website. (Kudos to Cynthia Daniel, once again!) I guess when they saw that I had done other government commissions, they contacted me.

What wonderful news! Painting all those medals and finding out what they all signify. Congratulations!

I don't have any idea what most of these signify. There are almost too many to count! I do know that one of them was specially designed to represent Admiral Allen's exemplary handling of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, after the Coast Guard took over operations from FEMA.

Congratulations Michele! I'm looking forward to seeing it.

By the way, I have to go to Seattle one day next week and I thought I'd take a look at the Impressionist show at the SAM. Would you be interested in joining me? The 27th - 30th are the days I have available. Email if you're interested.

One of the best things about this job is getting to meet such interesting clients. What other job can you have where you get to paint every day, have zero commute, don't have to dress up, and get to work with people in all walks of life, from Southern debutantes to world class ballet dancers, to Admirals!
