Twins

I had promised these sisters (womb-mates as a friend describes very fraternal twins) portraits for their Christmas presents two years ago. Since there was no way to get them to sit still, I snapped digital shots to go by. This is the first.

She was pretty excited and I had to hold on to showing her for a while until I finally had the time to spend on her sister.

The girls are 15 years old but are small and do look a bit young. These are watercolor on Canson cold-pressed 9x11"

Thanks for looking.

Doing a portrait in watercolor is very difficult. The girl with the blonde hair seems to be wearing too much eye shadow and her nose is a bit crooked, but maybe she really looks like that. Perhaps a slightly more flattering photo angle would have helped. They look a little too much like the photos on our driver's licenses. Otherwise, they are very well done.

Ah, my trademark "photo on the license" look!

I do have a strong aversion to bodies and backgrounds. I either cut off their heads or make mug shots. Also a problem working from photos. I have about three pictures I did from life but the models have about the same enthusiasm.

About her nose, I did move an eyebrow and tweak a tad after I scanned her. I will post the life-drawings tonight and see if there is any more vitality in the kind that wiggle.

PS. She DID just get home from a makeup makeover. You know how 15 year olds get!

She looks "exactly" like a 15 year old getting back from a make up makeover, covered with war paint and fit to kill.

They are lovely! And so are the paintings!
