Underpainting or monochromatic?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi everyone,

This oil portrait (24" x 20") started out as an underpainting. However, I loved the effect of it being a monochromatic and I decided to leave it that way.

Has or does anyone else love the effect of a monochromatic works? I would love to hear other artist's views on this subject.

I started a self-portrait with a warm umber underpainting but I liked it so much I think I will perhaps leave it as is. It looks like it could be one of my long gone ancestors because of the chiaroscuro lighting, the fact that my hair is in a bun and the sepia-looking color of the paint. I may never do an over painting on it.

Do you have a scan?

I would love to see an image of that drawing. Do you have a scan of it?

Not at the moment, but I'll take a picture of it soon and post it here when I do.
