Cajun calipers

I've been wanting to get a pair of calipers to help in assessing proportions, but I live in a small town where you can't buy art supplies... at all. The closest thing to an art supply house is the office supply place that sells a few drafting odds and ends (very few. Draftsmen don't use paper and pencils anymore).

After looking at what was available on the shelves, the sales girl walked me to the front desk to show me the catalog, in case I wanted to order something. But there was no need for the catalog. in the few steps between the drafting supplies and the cash register I passed the rack of scissors. It was one of those "ah ha" moments. Modern scissors have a bit of tension built in so they can hold a position just like calipers. Not only that, but I already have several pair at home.

So I walked out of the store empty handed, but it was a successful shopping trip.

I haven't tried it out yet, but I think it will work fine, and those of you who haven't bought calipers yet might want to consider doing the same.

Hi Jeff!

I happened to catch this after I updated the cast-drawing thread. You may know this already, but just in case, I'll add it: I bought two very inexpensive pairs of calipers, one large and one small, at Office Depot. I don't know if there's one of those, or any other office supply places, near you but it's a thought. I never thought about looking at office supply places for them, so I thought I'd mention it.

If I'd known about the scissors though, I might have saved my money.

BTW ... I have a sister in Slidell. Her name's Cindy. Do you know her? :D

I don't know Cindy, but my wife's cousin, Doug, lives in Raleigh. Maybe you know him.
