Portrait of Claire
 

This is the end result of the wip I had posted in the "Work in Progress" area. It's on 14"x21" light gray Stonehenge, graphite. I wasn't sure about not working on the shirt on this one for two reasons. One, the shirt Claire wore was ugly and she knew it. I have the license to change or simplify it, but will wait it out. Two, I had this planned for my next piece before starting this one. I believe it works, but wouldn't mind any opinions. If it ever bothers me, I can easily go back into it. Thanks.

Really Beautiful!!

I studied your WIP last night on my laptop which has a nicer and bigger screen. Her hair is so rich in texture and depth. But what I like the most about Claire is how you have captured multiple emotions!! She has a very pleasant look on her face, but with the slightly furrowed forehead there is an inward worry..very "Mona Lisa - istic"!!!! It is that mystery of, "what is she feeling and thinking" that makes your portraits so capturing and hauntingly beautiful. I hope to see some of these in person one day!! Of course, hanging in a very successful gallery!!!!

I wouldn't change a thing Jimmie. it is wonderful the way it is. Have you noticed that you do not get critiques anymore? Your just too good.

No, don't change it. Right now the shirt is so unimportant, it very effectively enhances her features and the beauty of the drawing. I certainly didn't notice that it was ugly. I see only an interesting woman, beautifully depicted.

Great drawing again Jimmie. I think in addition to knowing how to handle a pencil, your concept of what makes a good composition is a great talent that you posses. This is what sets you apart. This one is one of your better compositions.

They just keep getting better. The hair treatment is elegant and the facial expression is handled with geat sensitivity.

I know everybody will hop on me if I have one teeny tiny criticism, but you did ask for an opinion. I think the area under the cheekbone to the jaw could be ever so slightly darkened. It seems to come forward a bit.

Leave the blouse as it is, it is linear perfection.

I really like the fact you let the shirt be and put the emphasis on the face, hair and arms. This is a good case of addition by abstraction. If you haven't as of yet ,you should check out the drawings of Steven Assael. His drawings are in ball point pen, mostly, and he is very successful. I think you are quite worthy and should be enjoying the same type of response to your drawings. Keep up the good work.

I bought his book, "Selected Drawings" a few months back after looking for galleries that I thought would like my work, and found his work very interesting. I've sent slides to two galleries recently and need to send out more. I will definitely keep everyone updated if I get good news.

I'm so glad to hear this, Jimmie. I keep envisioning some wealthy New York collector filling his luxurious apartment with your drawings of intriguing women. Your images are so personal that they capture the imagination and I'm sure they will find a devoted audience.
