Oil on New Traditions Art Panel, L-600 linen. 24" x 18".
In this painting, I used value to design a NW to SE diagonal in the foliage, to counterbalance the opposing direction of the figure. In addition the placement and shapes of the cast shadows on the stucco wall work to direct the eye. The gestural form in the pose of this young woman (I think) shows her quiet confidence and serenity. |
Beautiful
Another lovely painting, Chris! I love the choice of colors and the contrast of the flowers as that extra touch of interest.

This is beautiful. I am struck by how well the fabric of her dress works itself into the composition. I read allot here about how difficult it is to dress a stubject in patterns, but it works perfectily with the diagonals you mention.
Her face is lovely. This goes into my file of paintings to study, Chris! It's always a treat to view your work. |
Absolutely gorgeous color, Chris.
I have been working lately with high key color and patterns, and know just HOW DIFFICULT it is too pull off something as successfull as this. You make it look like a walk in the park. Beautifully done. I will let you know how my presently exceedingly gaudy oevre is coming, unless I make into a raft and jump off it into Narragansett bay! |
I love this too. I can see those nice green reflections in her face.

Nice painting Chris, I'm a real fan of the direct gaze. I think it conveys a sense of self confidence in the subject.
|
I agree with Mike about the direct gaze and would like to add that her right (our left looking at it) hand looks as if she would have a strong confident hand shake.
I like it. |
Gosh Chris this is lovely! Everything about it is compelling and lush. I congratulate you for creating another terrific outdoor painting, they are not at all easy to do.
|
This is unmistakable as your work, Chris. You can capture light so beautifully. A pleasure to look at.

Very nice work Chris. I particularly like how the two spots of light combine with the rest of her face.
