Hi folks--

This is the latest in what seems to be my "Blue Period." Everything I'm working on right now seems to have a preponderance of blue.

I'll deliver it tomorrow. We'll see what they say.

(Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.)

Lovely, thoughtful painting. I suspect they'll say they love it.

It's a lovely, classic color harmony, Tom. It makes me anything but blue :) and I am sure it will be enthusiasticlaly received.

Beautiful portrait Tom. I love those little toes.

Good to have that go out before Thanksgiving. All those family members gathered around your work. Gives you a warm chingly feeling inside.

Have a great holiday.

This is my favorite of all the heads I've seen you paint. Transcendent.

Tom Edgerton 11-22-2004 09:14 PM

Thanks to everyone for the positive response!

Marvin--I really appreciate this affirmation. She is a special child and I wanted to get the countenance right.

I'm trying to get away from formulaic color and paint with more nuance, turning form with color as well as value. (Everything is a little more sensitive in the original painting.) Aspects of The Palette have helped a lot with this.

Wow, very nice. I love your handling of the dress, especially the wrinkles where there is a definite sense of space.

Marvin Mattelson 11-22-2004 11:15 PM

Tom, I'm so happy my palette helped you make a difference. I find that as my sensitivity to the subtleties develops, my palette is right there with me, nuance by nuance. It's like driving a tuned sportscar. The tighter the turns the more in control you feel.

Tom, whenever you post your work there is always something to inspire fresh jealousy in me. This time I'm especially impressed with the way the cheek turns and the folds in this dress. You make it look so easy to do... .

Congratulations on another lovely painting.!

I love the subtle color harmonies. Could you post a couple of closeups if you get a chance?
