Greetings from Berkeley, California

Hi All:
My name is Rod Lamkey, and I am very honored to be here. I have been visiting this forum for several months and finally gained the courage to apply for membership. The two paintings I submitted for review are: 'Big Jon' and 'Carrie The Violinist', which are on my website. (At this moment I am unsure how to resize them for attachment, here.) Hopefully the URL will appear with my signature!

I have been teaching myself to paint for five years. For the past twenty months I have been attending classes at the Atelier School of Classical Realism in Oakland, California, studying drawing and color theory. Also, I have taken one drawing class with Rebecca Alsofon, in Redwood City.

This forum is a wonderful resource. As I have gained a great deal by reading various posts, I would like, if at all possible, to eventually contribute something as well.

Thank you, very much.
Rod Lamkey

Hi Rod and welcome!

Your signature is showing the URL for your website, but is not showing as a link... It needs to have [ URL ] (with the square brackets right up against the 'URL') at the front end of it and [ /URL ] at the end of it (again remove the spaces!) then it will work as a link. I did visit your website and your 'Big Jon', especially, is very nicely done.

Again, Welcome!

Welcome Rod.

I liked your "Buddy & Derrick" very much.

Thank you

Hi, Terri and Claudemir:
Thank you Terri for the advice regards the URL, which I have fixed. Also thanks to both of you for your kind words about my work. Coming from artists on the forum, they mean a lot to me.

II'll post more images in other sections of the forum for critique and with questions about such things as asymetrical faces, to flatter or not to flatter, and palettes. Actually I have a million questions!

Thanks again,
Rod Lamkey

Thank you, again

I must say thanks, again. Both for the nice things said about my work and for being inspired by the pictures on Terri's website. Terri, you have raised my standards! Also, thank you for the advice about my URL in the signature.

One last thing before I 'graduate' to other areas of the forum: I have received my first commission! I will show it on the forum when it is finished.

Thanks again,
Rod Lamkey

Congratulations Rod! And know that you can turn here for help (if you need it)... I sure did on my first several commissions, and they were a lot better for it! :)
