The Scarf

16x12" on canvas

I suppose it could go under Portraits, but it isn't a commission, just for fun.

Posting a little warm.
Edit - tweaked the photo in the light of day to be closer to the painting.

That's great skin texture! Some areas subtle, some areas bold. Very nice all around.

Thanks Jimmie. :)

I agree with Jimmie, Kim, this is very nicely painted. Such lovely moist eyes!

For some reason I am starting to associate this sharp green color with your work in general, I'm going to search around and see if you use it a lot. I like it!

Thanks Linda! It's the scarf that's green. I've used it in... 2 or 3 paintings so far. I love that scarf! I picked it up at a World Market and it's just really beautiful. It has an India-feel to it. I really am into rich fabrics. I keep cruising these India-clothing sites and want to buy more costumes and scarfs. I havent done this one justice yet - it has shimmery gold throughout it. Maybe a still life with it.... :sunnysmil

I've been told that you can approach a painting in one of two ways, either through value or color - colorist or tonalist. Given that I would have to place myself in the tonalist camp. In the case of this painting however I absolutely love the color. The red hair against the green gold of the scarf is wonderful. By the way, I can't fault the values either. Well done.

Kimberly, I rather enjoy the green color too. I'm sure it is no accident that the slightly lighter (or perhaps thicker) areas of paint--maybe a design on the scarf (?) just a wee bit outside the chin area point so subtly to the face. Whew, I got that into a very long sentence. Hope it made sense. Ah, I like that little touch. Also the eyes are beautiful.

Thanks David & Lisa,

I can't take credit for the lighter areas of the scarf (which are shimmery threads that pick up the light) pointing to her face - it fell that way - although I do remember adjusting the thing around her face so I could see more of the threads.
