Opinion on frame, please
 

If you guys don't mind taking a couple of minutes, I'd like an opinion on this frame. The framer let me borrow this corner piece, and I added the rest in Photoshop.

The image is 19x24" and the frame is 2 3/4 inch thick. I personally am not crazy about the bead pattern, I find it distracting. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I just came from choosing a frame for my most recent piece so this subject has been on my mind today.

I agree with you that the bead work tends to take away and detract from your subject. I think that type of bead work could work, but it should be a little smaller. It could be my monitor but the color of the frame looks a little too pinkish also. Will you be matting this or just using the spacers?

There are so many choices of frames, I wish you all the best in finding one that is fantastic! My framer NEVER lets me get the one I originally want and he is right ALL the time! :o

I like the rich brown of the frame, but I have to agree that the beading competes for your attention. If you want to experiment with a variety of styles there is a framing site where you can upload an image and try frames on your work, it's www.pictureframes.com.

Thanks guys for the opinions and suggestions. I only use spacers, I would not use a mat, just another element to consider and I personally think it looks more formal without it. Just my opinion. Kim sent me some samples, some of which look like very good options to consider. I'll have to check with the framer and recheck the inventory. Thanks again.

I like this just fine. I don't think the beadwork is too distracting--it pops off of the necklace. But it wouldn't be a problem if it weren't there either. If the Photoshop color is accurate, I like the color, as it extends the environment out farther, rather than contrasting with it. Goes well with her skin tones also.

The moulding is a little narrow. A good proportion for portrait frames is a moulding that is one half the head width to a full head width. But this problem is overcome because the frames blends so seamlessly with the background.

I am no expert on framing and my suggesting is more on the drawing.

I think that the blank paper in the bottom looks a bit strange to that frame. If it was me I would fill it with the red that you have done along the other three sides. That red works like a border area that makes the transition to the frame smoother and sort of works like a matting.

I like this frame though I do agree with Allan that the cropping of the image at the bottom feels awkward. I'd either leave lots more room below the figure to show more of the ground (probably too late for that, I imagine) or I'd crop all the raw background out and move the signature up.
