This is a very lovely and tender portrait.

I like the sense of different temperatures throughout your painting. Very evocative of a cool day with indirect sunlight. Lovely portrait with clean confident colors that ring true for plein air portraiture. You inspire me to give it a try.

Alan,
I always enjoy your work and this is yet another one to study. I have a tendency to paint very tight and wish I could have those lovely loose brushstrokes like you. I often visit your webpage for inspiration. Your "vife" has such a sweet look about her which you have captured so well. Makes me wish I could invite her over for a cup of tea. Cynthia |
So beautiful, Allan. What a gem of a painting you have created for your family!

Allan,
Your work keeps astounding me. I can't stop looking at this one. There are so many things I love about it: her wonderful expression, her face next to the red wall, the different color temperatures and light on her face, the brushstrokes and colors and expressiveness of the hair, the way the wispy ends of her hair mingle with her ear, the economical way you painted the roses. The whole painting is evocative of love--true, long-lasting love--not the least bit sappy or overly sentimental. Someday I have to meet her. That's the way this painting makes me feel. |
This is a great one Allan. I love the expression on her face, so alive!

The love for your model comes through. It is a beautiful painting of your wife and very different in feel from the last one you did of her.
Very nice! |

Mary Ann, Chris, Cynthia, Michele, Alex, Debra and Enzie,
thank you for your kind comments. This was a particularly nice experience because I have tried my brushes on Aud before with less luck and I think this portrait shows her the way I see her, and also because I managed to finish it for her birthday, yesterday. It did not take long to paint, but I spent a considerable amount of time by figuring out how it should be composed before I actually started painting, the painting took two sessions / days. The setting is in front of our house in the sunset. The sun is strong on the red wall while Aud is almost in shadow . I liked the challenge of the reversed color sceme, normally the background color is weaker. |
Allan,
I find this to be a lush and very vibrant portrait! It is lovely. Thanks for sharing. |
