Hello,

After months of quiet prowling, I have finally gotten up the nerve to join this forum. With a background in Art History (Italian Renaissance), and little formal art training, this site has been a tremendous source of practical information.

I live in a rural town, not too far from Madison, Wi with my husband and three young children. I am attaching a painting of my nephew that I painted last weekend. I painted it from a photo that I took, where I posed him under an enormous skylight at an indoor pool. I thought the light was nice, but I would be interested to know what you think.

Welcome, Leah! Yes, the lighting is nice. Good work, one that I know your family will treasure.

Speaking of treasuring...this forum is a treasure of information, isn't it? Hope to see you post many more in the future!

Leah, your images can be up to 400 pixels wide - that helps to be able to see detail a bit better. If you want a full critique, posting in the Critiques section is the way to go.

Julie, Thanks for the nice welcome! This is indeed a treasure. Its far more comprehensive than any book I've read, or class I've taken.

I will try to learn how to make my images fit the screen the next time I post a picture.

Welcome, Leah! Happy to have you on the forum!

Nice to have you aboard, Leah. Nice painting, very cute boy, too! I have boxes of printed material from this forum. Print what you find interesting because there is only so much room, and I think Cynthia has to "clean out the old stuff" once in awhile!

Leah Purisch 01-31-2010 06:51 PM

Its a good idea to print the parts that I need to remember. I have just been bookmarking everything, which is not the most efficient way to go about it. Thanks for the advice!

Welcome! I am very familiar with Lake Mills, went to college in Madison:)

Too many mosquitos for me tho! Look forward to your participation int he Forum:)

Hi Chris,
I went to Madison too for undergrad and grad school - just couldn't leave! After graduating we moved around a lot, including the southwest (Albuquerque) and finally had to find our way back to WI. I missed the seasons, but sure could do without the mosquitos too!
