Small head and shoulders

Hi,
I am working on samples of small portraits, mainly children. I know that it is best to paint life size heads, but I'm painting 11" x 14" to 12" x 16". These are painted quickly. I'm trying to capture the likeness as well as create a fresher approach. All ideas are very welcome!

Diane, I think these are both beautiful. I especially like the light and edges in the first painting of the young boy!

Hi Diane,

These are beautiful! Love your brushwork. I also like doing heads smaller than life myself--something about the viewer having to come closer to the surface of the painting, thus making the experience of viewing it more intimate.

Looks like you will get a lot of response from these samples.
