Kirk and Marvin
Kirk,
I have followed your work for many years. You are truly one of my mentors, even though you never knew it. To be able to click and see your work on the Gandy Gallery site has been such a convenience in the past couple of years and I hope to visit that gallery if I can get down that far south! I usually stop around Charleston.
As far as Marvin's work - I have something else very interesting to report.
I was teaching in my K-5 art classroom on Friday. I put a transparency from my textbook series on the overhead of a very colorful zebra (since we were studying exotic animals and painting them) I had searched through all my large prints and transparencies and came up with a few. This one, I knew they would like.
To my complete surprise, as I read out the "artist's name", it was none other than MARVIN MATTELSON. The zebra was on a poster design advertising The School Of Visual Arts. I then told my students my "connection" to the artist, which they were very impressed with.
Marvin - that illustration career is always lurking around in some art textbook in some small Southern town all over America! Barrett Kendall Publishing was responsible for this series of textbooks.
Cheers,
Denise
