This is a piece I have seen grow. I am happy to have Simon over here. HE does portraits of buildings with the intensity and personality any portrait of a human would die for. I guess he turns to people in the cold season because you don't risk frostbite.
Steven has given such a wonderful assessment of the purpose and intention of composition in portraiture, I thank Simon for posting so I could read the response! The value of the stage where the action takes place is a wonderful way for me personally to think of the areas I don't want to deal with. I am a decapitator. It may be a talent I will save for balding men... hmmm... thanks again Steven!
And the "Traditional Portrait" spoken of here is something I am waffling (or is it waffleing?) about. There is such a statement on a wall when Adam is hanging there, full of Simon purples, looking out into a room! Is that traditional portraiture? Is there a place for what that is? I tell people I feel like a reporter on the things I see. I am not a photographer. I am not sure I would like to be a photographer, exactly. I feel I have an interpretive ability to bring the sense of the event and the witness to the event, by showing it through my vision.
A piece like Adam is bound to evoke more of the debate that was found in the FREUD posting in the cafe. Is there a commercial place for the psychological portrait?
