Joseph, I am not an expert on underpaints. However, usually underpaints dry faster than regular paints. If you use them over slower drying colors, you may have some trouble. The general rule is, faster drying stuff first. Slower drying stuff last, so that you do not get undersirable effects as the top paint dries faster than the underpaint. So, if you use Alkid oils and mediums, which dry faster, you need to use them first. Then later, use the slower colors last, whites, warmer colors, etc. Generally your warm colors dry slow, the cool colors, black and browns dry faster. Perhaps someone else here can give you better advice than I.
