Bouguereau-Cheribum
Hello,
This is my second post to the art forum. I am continually impressed and inspired by the talent portayed by all of you. For those of you who, like myself, are just scratching the surface of portraiture, it takes great courage to show your work amoungst the many talented professionals in this field. To you...I applaud.
I am in the process of doing a series of 15-20 cherubs...mainly from children I know, with the permission from their parents. I also wanted to add a few of the Old Masters works, for study and to give my series a classical feeling and look. The contrast of contemporary (now days) cherubs amidst the "works of old," was very intreging for an upcoming show.
In this painting, I wanted to capture the intense contrast, softness and harmony that Bouguereau and great Masters like Rembraundt have so exquisitly mastered and passed on to us. I also admire the way Jeffery Mims (A Master artist of these days) uses color to give life and movement to a painting. So, this was another lesson for me in using color for lights and shadows. Notice the arms and abdomen.
