Margaret,

I tried to turn an extra room into a studio but this room only had one window in a dormer. I set up directional lights (daylight bulbs), I also bought an Ott light that was clipped to my easel and the overhead lights were also daylight bulbs.

I have given up trying to use that room to paint in. When I took a painting that I had been working on into a room with natural north light, I was shocked to see what my skin tones looked like. I had to repaint the skin. My tones under artificial light were too dark and not natural enough. I now paint in a room with a large window with northern exposure and use natural daylight. My colors are true to life now and I cannot go back to the artificial lights.

Just my opinion.
