Denise,

What a beautiful painting! And you make me quite curious about Peggy Baumgaertner's techniques. The serenity of your model's expression and the way you've handled the composition and the brushwork are all lovely. Congratulations!

Re photographing paintings, the only way I've ever been able to get satisfactory results is to shoot outdoors, between ten and two so the light is more neutral in color, and in the sun. I have several spots around my studio where I shoot: against the garage door, by my pond, out on my dock, depending on the light and the season. Often I'll try several shots in different locations. My work is bright and seems to need full sun to capture the colors faithfully. I've seen many recommendations to shoot on an overcast day or just inside a shadowed area and that has never produced decent results for me. I've also invested in special lights to try to break my dependence on the weather and got positively green-ish looking paintings for my pains. Anyway, hope that helps.
