Masterpiece Canvas Competition
One of my students told me about the Masterpiece Canvas competition
Prizes are given in canvas, rather than dollars. Several images are posted for various categories, and you must paint one of the images.
I warn you that the resource photos are challenging at best - perhaps they were meant that way. I know all of us would insist on better resource photos for our commissions,

Congratulations Chris!
Hi Chris,
I must say this is a wonderful interpretation of the photograph, and the composition is impeccable! I love the way it the background works with the subject.

A well deserved congratulations!
Chris,
I am amazed at what you did with that marginal photo!
I just don't get the first prize winner. What is up with that!

Hey, thanks,
Yes the resource photos were awful, and I can see why an abstract interpretation would have been a sensible choice. Only a portrait nut would try to actually rescue the photo into a reasonable painting.
In any case, I have ordered three large canvases, all in different surfaces, so I'll get to try them out and let you know what they're like.

Congrats Chris! I looked at the resource photos and decided I wasn't up to that much of a challenge. You did it beautifully.

Chris,
Your painting is wonderful. If I were the mother of that little child I'd be on the phone with you. Congratulations!!
