Becca and Si
I've been using my daughter as a model a lot recently. Here's another portrait of her with the cat, Si. The concept of this one was to keep her hair the brightest, warmest element in the composition. I did this one in north light.

Alexandra, this is very, very nice! Great expression, nice handling of the lighter colors and cat. I'm a cat person myself.

This is beautiful Alexandra! I think the expression you caught here is very sweet. Your paintings really have a way of bringing out your subject's expressions, making the viewer want to know what they are thinking.
Her right hand is fantastic too!!

Thanks, Jimmie, Julie and Julie! I posted this one right before I saw Vianna Szabo's painting of her daughter and since then I've been so intrigued by her painting, thinking about how mothers paint their daughters and what goes into their choice of pose, expression, etc. This is a very characteristic expression of Becca's. Julie, I am so pleased that you see the sweetness that is such a big part of her personality. I, too, often wonder what she is thinking! And I guess I unintentionally (or subconsciously) put that into the painting.

Can I copy Chris? I want to be like her anyway so why not? Heck, I want to be like you too!
Lovely. I mean it. I am however, a dog person. No offense intended.

This has a wonderfully soft cool radiance and I really admire your controlled, yet painterly, style, Alexandra.

Alexandra,
Beautiful, all of it
I like your color scale, using the secondary colors, orange, violet and green. And the light is so soft and cool. It reminds me of your landscapes.
I had a Siamese cat like this once.

Alexandra, I keep coming back to look at this. It's so peaceful and homey. The posture of the cat is just perfect (my daughter carries one of our cats around like that all the time ). The skin tones and reflected light on Becca's face are beautiful.
