Coffee House Owner

Attached is a recently finished portrait of a gentleman from Winston-Salem, NC. He owns a coffee/computer shop (quite unique) where he will hang this piece.

It measures 26" x 40" and is oil on linen.

The writing on the top was requested. It refers to a bible verse 4:13 - "I can do all things, through Christ Who strengthens me."

The framed piece is a burlap coffe bean bag and on the table is a muffin, cell phone and a copy of The Wall Street Journal.

John,
What beautiful colors !!!! There is a great harmony in this painting, in many ways.

Do you know the super ellipse ? The perfect combination of a rectangle and a ellipse.
I came to think of it because the circle on the picture looks like one and the man is in my, very personal opinion, aspiring to that form.

This may be an untraditional way of searching for harmony, but it is there and it works.

Allan

There's a feeling of Pre-Rockwell 30's period in this painting, and it appeals to me. A deep sense of heritage, which i believe he'll like about very much. Great work John!

John,

I second and third all that has been said by Sharon, Allan, and Marcus. This is a beautifully designed painting, with great tonality and color affinity, and a nice sense of weight and balance. Furthermore I can detect this gentleman provides great coffee, and discourse at a great venue. Well done!

Garth

Thank you Sharon, Allan, Marcus and Garth-

Your words are gratifying. Todd was very happy and couldn't wait to show it off.

Sharon, Todd does indeed have a lot of charm and dignity. He is the type of gentleman that you want to be around, full of goodwill.

Allan, the design is intentional only as elements that were in his store but not in that particular order. I took several photographs for reference in order for me to move the elements in the order that they appear. It is worth noting that Todd created the design for his store and hired a very talented artist to faux paint his ideas.

Marcus, you brought something to my attention that I hadn't seen and to have a reference to Rockwell makes me proud. Thank you.

And Garth, yes, Todd make a great cup of coffee.

Thanks again for your "intelligent" comments.

John
