Lighting to paint by and seeing it in a different light
Wow, I must say that I think this is a subject that is like what brush to use or what white paint or to work in layers or alla prima. Very personal thing. But I have heard more then a few masters give their opinion on this and I have studied studio setups of artists whose work I admired that I tend to lean toward their judgment.
(No disrespect to anyone here intended).
Of whom do I refer? Well here is the short list and their studio setups (First of all I am a trained illustrator so my first two are illustrators who inspired me to become an artist).
1. NC Wyeth: Large North facing window with one smaller window in the north west corner. The windows on the north side are so large that the small one on the west side had little effect on the over all lighting. I have been inside it. As for artificial light I do not know. It
