Kim, trips like that are definitely tax deductible, assuming most or all of your time there is "for your art".
Bring a pochade box, visit the National Gallery, schedule a group dinner or two and that strenthens your case too.
Check with your accountant (ideally one who has experience working with artists) to be sure of the details.
