Thank you Thomasin as ever; one of my problems is I have difficulty working less than life size, in fact I usually go larger.

The papers I use are fixed at 50X70cm, the only way round scale issues is to prime a larger board; perhaps the next step..

What scale do you work with? I love your portrayal of the figure and skin

Chris, crofters are traditional Highlands and Islands smallholders; it was a tough life for many, trying to grow enough to live on (the land tends to be rocky and barren ; Plenty of them actually emigrated to the US and Canada)
