Really super painting, Margaret! I looked at the detailed version on your website to get an idea of the marks you made - wonderful stuff! You should put a link here to that page so others can view it. I really like the way the face merges into the background, and keeps the form, and this one works very well focusing on just the face and letting the background be subservient. A very intelligent choice (although it does take some thought and experimentation to bring it to success - as I am finding out all the time).

I am thinking somewhat about Japanese art where the slightest mark is left in its initial form to convey such a satisfying aestheticism. I have gone on so many month-long hikes to find the perfect resting place in my paintings, and am realizing that the short wanderings with the paintbrush around the canvas right at the beginning are much more where I want to be, and I feel that you might be thinking in the same way. Does having a successful, respected and enjoyable profession as a GP give you freedom to enjoy and be so bold with your art-making as much as you do/are?
