Meet me! - David Golas

Hello all! I've been reading along for awhile now but I thought it was time to throw myself into the mix all proper like.

I am a pretty busy guy these days, a condition I'm sure you can all relate to. I am a husband, a father and an artist. I guess I should qualify that last one. I'm a full time student at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Unfortunately, I have not yet sold any paintings. I just completed my second year of the program there so, if I add all of those credits to the ones I have to the applicable ones I have accumulated over the last 15 years I have about a year and half left before I graduate. Anyway, between those three things I stay rather thoroughly occupied.

Some other interesting things about me? I once met Bruce Willis! I am a veteran, incidentally I met Bruce Willis when he participated in a USO tour. I was a crew chief in the Air Force and I worked on the KC-10. I immediately following the end of my enlistment I began studying illustration at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. I transferred after 3 semesters to PAFA. I have a tendancy to ramble when I'm tired. I'm tired right now....

I guess the things you are probably interested in knowing are these:
I definitely want to paint portraits professionally.
I tend to appreciate painters enjoy the illusion but also enjoy the paint.
I have a strong interest in the teachings of Frank Reilly .
My goal is to increase both my technical ability in the areas of value control and drawing and also my design sensibility in the areas of composition, empathy for the subject and strengthening my picture making skills.

I've been fortunate enough to win two awards for portraits this semester. Both of them were self portraits and I have attached them to this post...hopefully I did it right. I also attached two self-portrait drawings I did recently. The other painting was done in a portrait class I took this semester and it looks like it is the first one directly below.

Well, nice to meet you all. I have been thoroughly enjoying the posts and I have several personal art heroes numbered amongst the members here. I have several portrait projects in the works and I hope to gain input on them as I work through the process. See you around!
