Another Orpen
Linda thank you for starting this thread and for kindly posting the photos. Orpen has a interesting history and worth the reed. Sargent thought quite highly of him.
Cynthia, sometime ago I visited Sanden's page on Orpen and saw the painting of the young boy. Such simplicity of pose but masters hand.
Here is another with a feather.
Allan, I would love to see your version of the Lady R in color. I hope someone will come across it and post.

Mischa,
I just went in on this Orpen site:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Ca...:William_Orpen
I almost posted this feathered lady. Orpen had more fun than Sargent, it seems.

Mischa,
The portrait is in a private collection, so maybe we will never see it.
We should paint our own version, The Orpen Wannabees Wanna sees

To tell you the truth, I'm not sure where I bought the Orpen book, but I should have bought if from your site. Thank you also for other link, it was very interesting.

Mischa, good work! Look at that masterful red hair. What an extraordinary painting.
(By the way, I'm hoping a zealous artist will open a thread about Mancini, hint hint.)

Not sure if it is Antonio Mancini you are referring to?

Hi again Mischa, yes, Antonio Mancini is the artist; I'm a big fan of his. (Somebody told me today that there is a new book being written about Mancini, though it could be just a rumor. (I really like bringing artists like Orpen and Mancini to a wider audience of artists via this website. Thanks again Cynthia for making this happen. )

How exciting! I didn't know much about Orpen until you all started mentioning him and posting all these incredible images. Thanks, Linda, for starting this thread. I'm going to have to order some books. (Cynthia, I know I've been saying this for a while--I haven't forgotten.)
