Because of one shot of Noble which had some great mixed light, I was inspired to do an oil sketch when I returned home.
This is 9 x 12, oil on linen panel. 3 to 4 hours.
It was kind of hard to go wrong with such great subject matter. I am also using this to help me further work with losing detail in the dark areas. I am really trying to simplify this.
Thanks for looking, I hope Garth post some of his great images too!
Beth

Nice painting, Beth. One of your best!
Thanks for posting the update on your DC trip. Sometimes it does seem like Seattle is a million miles away from everybody else!

Beth!
Oh my goodness, I go away for Thanksgiving and completely miss your excellent thread about our great meetup! It was truly a joy to meet you and spend some time together at the NGA. Your friends from the Ireland workshop are great and interesting, talented folks too.
I got to spend a few more hours discussing art with Noble, your subject, until close to midnight, when I headed home. All in all it was an invigorating fulfilling day. I am so glad we finally met!
Knowing Noble as a friend, I can certainly vouch that you captured him perfectly in your portrait study. Nice inspired work!
I'll add a few more pictures about our fine day (but not those fun naughty ones I took).
I have been with Beth! Thanks,
Garth
PS. I will post twelve pictures in three posting sets.
This first set is of Beth and her subject Noble.

Beth and that girl with the red hat
A lucky hand held shot of a Vermeer..... and then there was Beth. Were they separated at birth?
