ribbon Another Nikon convert ...

Driven by all the positive spin given to the Nikon CoolPix 995 (primarily Bill Whitaker) I went out and got myself one.

I am in awe. Any of you who haven't yet checked it out, do yourself a favour and do so. This model has been discontinued, to be replaced by the CoolPix 5000 at a hefty premium. Unless you're photo-obsessive I can't see why you'd ask for more than what the 995 can do. The savings you're going to get is respectable; nearly 40% or more off the start-price.

The obsolescence-curve of digital cameras is absurd. Why does technology always have to be bigger-better-faster? Is no one satisfied anymore?

4-year-old Ricoh

My Ricoh digital is 4 years old and I am very satisfied with it, except for one thing, delay. But that I understand is still a problem with digitals. It takes a second or so for the shutter to process, making it difficult for fast action. But it has great resolution, it is compatible with the latest Smart Media cards, and frankly has some features that the newer ones don't, like a swivel lens. Most of the new ones have a stationary zoom. I was lucky I guess. The one I bought before that was a bad, an early Panasonic with nothing.

Now I need to get a standard camera, however, again, because the publisher I am working with requires 35mm film camera work! (Sheesh)
