Marty at 12

I'm scheduled to start a painting from life this weekend, so I completed this little charcoal portrait of my nephew for the pure enjoyment I get from drawing. Besides I have wanted to capture his beautiful eyes! This is Marty at 12.

Thanks for looking.

Beatiful drawing of a beautiful boy! What a terrific artist you are. I love the background values. They're perfect. Really, the whole drawing is perfect. How large is it?

Thanks, Lisa. It is almost lifesize, I think the cutout of the matting is 7 1/5 x 10. I kinda like the experiment of framing real close up, just for something different. My one sister has seven kids and they all have these beautiful dark eyes, and eyelashes galore!!! Marty is now 15 and kind of teenage awkward and growing faster than Kathy can keep clothes on his back, so I was glad to get this photo session when I could, when he was still at that "beautiful boy" stage!! I would love to paint it, but the color ref is not very good.

Pat, it turned out very nice! It has a sort of unfinished look about it, which definately is different, but works well.

What do you think about my painting it in a monochrome pallette? What color would you suggest??
