Strokes of Genius 2: The Best of Drawing Light and Shadow

There's not that many drawing competitions around, and not that many that consider both sketches and finished drawing as equally eligable, so I thought I would post the details of this one, and especially since members have posted drawings lately.

The winners will be included in the second edition of the book Strokes of Genius, published by North Light books.

Here's the link to the application form: Strokes of Genius

The deadline is March 31st, 2008 (postmarked).

I just found out last week that the drawing I submitted was accepted for publication in the second edition. Its due out in October 2009.

I picked up a copy of the first book at Barnes and Noble to discover that our Chris Saper had a drawing in the first edition, it even made the back cover of the wrap.

John, I am so thrilled for you! Congratulations

I also have had a drawing accepted, and am now tracking down the mom of my subject t get a permission form to her...if your drawing is of a person (?!) you may need another permission form in addition to the package, you can call me if you have any questions...

The last book was beautifully produced, and I loved the variety of drawings included!

Pat,

Thanks. Its a sketch I did from life of my daughter when she first came home. I never intended for it to be anything except my reaction to such a wonderful (and scary) event).

Chris, I saw the first book and I agree. It is very diverse and I feel privileged to have been accepted.

John, Chris : congratulations!
John, it's a nice drawing, you captured very well the expression of such a young person. I'm really wondering what she had in mind...

Chris, I hope we will see your drawing before the publication, if you have an opportunity to post it on the Forum.

I just heard that my drawing "Somme" will be included also. The letter was almost lost in a pile of letters, but fortunately I found it. I'm very happy because drawing is a big part of my work...

Marina,

What a beautiful drawing.

As a new father I often asked the same thing - what are you thinking?

I must ask you and Chris to please be careful where you step as I feel I am walking with giants.

Thomasin, thank you for your kind words. I've always loved the drawing but I could never completely divorce myself from my emotional connection to be truly objective so I was and am pleased that it has received some recognition.

John it is so sweet. Hard, very hard, to draw a newborn and you did a sensitive, beautiful job.

Marina, congrats and I love this drawing of yours, too.

Chris, post your drawing, please!!!
